Changes to employment laws over the last few months have been fast and furious: Congress amended the Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disability Act, and finalized the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act. With so much to pay attention to, companies are confused and even seasoned HR professionals are feeling overwhelmed.

The Pennsylvania Chamber’s Human Resources Roundtable presents renowned experts in the field who will explain and clarify the latest compliance requirements and provide solid, practical advice on what to do keep your company safe:

  • The Family and Medical Leave Act—we’ll review the extensive changes, including new military leave provisions; leave to care for an injured service member; new definition of serious health conditions and light duty; substitution of paid leave; perfect attendance rewards; employer notice obligations; fitness-for-duty certifications, and more
  • The Americans with Disability Act—the new law (effective Jan. 1, 2009) now includes a long list of major life activities and bodily functions, as well as modifying what it means to be disabled, greatly expanding the number of individuals protected under the ADA. We’ll review definitions of disability, reasonable accommodations, how to handle medical inquiries, safeguarding medical records, and drug and alcohol issues
  • The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008— if you are aware of an employee’s relative’s medical condition or history, you now have genetic information, according to GINA. Employers need to request only the information they need and know what to do with the information they receive, as well as understand how the FMLA and the ADA have the potential to interact with GINA
  • Interactive Panel: Your Face-To-Face HR HelpLine—a highlight of the roundtable, this is your chance to ask any HR-related question you wish from this premier panel of professionals. It’s essentially a one hour HR HelpLine to provide the answers you need on the latest updates, recommended action items and best practices
