PA Chamber members heading to Washington to fight 'union card check'

Urging PA Congressional delegation to reject anti-worker, anti-jobs legislation

The PA Chamber is assembling a group of member businesses and local chamber of commerce officials to participate in a U.S. Chamber of Commerce “fly-in” to Washington, D.C. on the proposed Employee Free Choice Act on March 9-10.

The deceptively titled Employee Free Choice Act, otherwise known as union card check, would effectively eliminate the private ballot for union organizing and would force the threat of government binding arbitration on employers and employees. The proposal threatens worker freedoms and jobs at a critical time in the nation's economy. Read more.

The national fly-in is bringing to the nation's Capitol representatives from states considered battlegrounds in the debate over the anti-worker, anti-jobs EFCA. U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter holds the key vote in Pennsylvania. A coalition of business associations has written to Specter and the entire Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation outlining the negative impact to workers and employers of EFCA and urging a "no" vote on the legislation. The Pennsylvania State Republican Committee also adopted a resolution at its recent meeting urging opposition to the bill, which would effectively eliminate the private ballot for union organizing and force the threat of government binding arbitration.

The PA Chamber-led group will be meeting with members of the Pennsylvania delegation, urging them to oppose EFCA, which is bad for workers and threatens the livelihoods of many businesses struggling to keep their doors open.
