Effort to stop Employee Free Choice Act scores major victory
U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter announces he’s a 'no' vote on anti-jobs, anti-worker bill
The effort to stop the anti-worker, anti-jobs Employee Free Choice Act scored a major victory on Tuesday, March 24 when U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter formally announced that he would not only vote against EFCA, he would vote against any attempt to cut off debate (known as cloture) in the U.S. Senate.
Specter holds a key vote in the fate of EFCA, and his opposition to this threat to worker freedoms and our nation’s economic vitality is crucial.
"On behalf of our thousands of member businesses, the Pennsylvania Chamber thanks Senator Specter for taking a courageous position against intense pressure from organized labor," said Gene Barr, PA Chamber Vice President of Government and Public Affairs. "The legislation was bad for workers and it posed a serious threat to the economy at a time when our Commonwealth and the nation can ill afford additional job losses."
The PA Chamber was actively involved in the effort to stop EFCA, and recently led a group of local chamber of commerce officials and individual businesspeople to Washington to meet with Pennsylvania's Congressional delegation, urging them to oppose the legislation. |
