ChamberPAC endorsed candidate wins special House election
Primary election results set stage for important showdowns in November
In the 147th House special election race in Montgomery County, ChamberPAC endorsed candidate Marcy Toepel came out victorious. ChamberPAC is the political arm of the PA Chamber.
Two additional special state House elections were held in conjunction with the May 18 primary election. Winners in those races include Democrat Adam Ravenstahl for Allegheny County‘s 20th House District and Republican Marcia Hahn for Northampton County‘s 138th House District.
In other results, long-time incumbent and organized labor -backed U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter was defeated in the Democrat primary election by Congressman Joe Sestak. In the November general election, Sestak will face Republican Pat Toomey, who overwhelmingly defeated Peg Luksik in the Republican primary.
The PA Chamber has invited all four candidates to participate in U.S. senatorial and gubernatorial debates that will be held as part of the 26th Annual Chamber Dinner and moderated by veteran television journalist and former Nightline host Ted Koppel. The Annual Dinner will be held Monday, Sept. 27 at Hershey Lodge. More information and online registration is available here.
While the Republican primary for lieutenant governor was decisively won by bucks County Commissioner Jim Cawley, the Democrat lieutenant governor primary is yet to be officially decided. State Rep. Scott Conklin is holding 35.4 percent of the votes, with Jonathan Saidel holding 24.9 percent of the vote
Only one incumbent lost in the primary: Lehigh Valley Republican state Rep. Karen Beyer was defeated by Justin Simmons by a 55.6 percent to 44.4 percent margin. Both Philadelphia Republican and former House Speaker John Perzel and former Democratic House Speaker Bill DeWeese from Greene County won their primary election battles
In a key Pennsylvania congressional race, Democrat Mark Critz defeated Republican Tim Burns in a special 12th Congressional District election to fill the remaining term of the late U.S. Rep. John Murtha.
ChamberPAC will be hard at work over the next several months reaching out to state House and Senate candidates as part of the extensive endorsement process.
