PA Chamber hosts HR roundtable, workers' compensation training
Biz educational events offer expert compliance help, key issue updates
The PA Chamber hosted two well-attended business educational conferences on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at the Radisson Harrisburg-Hershey in Camp Hill.
The annual recertification training for Workers' Compensation Safety Committees is one of the main requirements of the state's Safety Committee Workers' Compensation Discount program, leading to a 5 percent reduction on companies' WC insurance premiums. The session informed participants on how to file electronically and meet requirements for workplace safety committees in Pennsylvania.
Mary Rose Turnpaugh, occupational safety training specialist at the Bureau of PennSAFE within the state Department of Labor and Industry, also led a series of informative discussions on the dynamics of workplace safety committees, identifying workplace hazards, conducting a proper health and safety audit, and the investigation of workplace accidents and incidents.
The first segment of the Human Resources Roundtable was dedicated to wage and hour issues for non-exempt employees. A mock discrimination trial highlighted the event. The mock trial dealt with a former employee alleging workplace discrimination and harassment. The interactive program allowed the attendees to participate as witnesses, and debate and deliberate as a mock jury. It ended with a guided discussion and a summary of the best practices for avoiding litigation.
The WC training was sponsored by AmeriHealth Casualty and HR Resolutions, and uFinancial served as the sponsor of the HR Roundtable.
Photos from both of these events are available on the PA Chamber's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/PAChamber.
The PA Chamber hosts business educational events throughout the year, covering a number of important compliance and regulatory topics across a spectrum of topics, including OSHA, WC, UC, environmental and IT security, to name a few. A full list of these offerings, with further information and links to online registration, is available here.
