PA Chamber to highlight opportunities in international trade

May 02, 2011

International trade will be in the spotlight at a business educational event being sponsored by the PA Chamber on Friday, May 6 at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey in Harrisburg. The International Trade Roundtable will highlight the basic guidelines and best practices on importing and exporting goods and services, with advice and first-hand experiences from Pennsylvania companies that have achieved success through trade.

The PA Chamber has worked closely with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce through its TradeRoots program in promoting the need for increased international trade in the midst of a recession, and in showcasing Pennsylvania’s unique position as an importer and exporter due to its geographical location. The Commonwealth lies within 40 percent of the nation’s population and 60 percent of Canada’s population, with three major ports providing access to the Atlantic Ocean, the Great Lakes region and the Gulf of Mexico. The ability to reach out to so many consumers through a strong infrastructure truly makes Pennsylvania the ‘keystone’ for goods and services.

Helping more businesses get involved in overseas trade is the purpose of the roundtable, which follows a similar event held last year.

Discussions will focus on guidelines for engaging potential trade partners; the financial aspects of exporting; how to best ship overseas; and a featured panel on exporting assistance with speakers from the Department of Community and Economic Development and the World Trade Center of Central Pennsylvania.

There is still time to register for the International Trade Roundtable. Click here for more information.

The International Trade Roundtable is being sponsored by BDP International and Gateway Logistics.
