Bill would streamline permitting process for biz, reduce red tape
PA Chamber members support creation of online permitting portal
The PA Chamber is urging the House to pass a measure (H.B. 2022) that would streamline the state’s often costly and confusing business permitting process.
On Wednesday, Jan. 25, the House referred the bill to the House Appropriations Committee after receiving a second consideration in the House. The bill would establish the Pennsylvania Business Permitting Portal within the Department of Community and Economic Development. It would also create an advisory board, comprising at least one small business member and one industry member, that would be charged with overseeing a website portal to assist businesses with identifying and securing the permits, licenses, applications, forms and registrations needed to establish and operate a business in Pennsylvania.
After creating a portal account, job creators would have access to a “one-stop shop” whereby they could submit applications, renew certifications and permits, make payments, track the status of applications and get the answers to important questions.
Earlier this week, the PA Chamber issued a memo to committee lawmakers in support of the measure, which would reduce regulatory red tape burdens on Pennsylvania’s job creators that hinder their ability to secure permitting in a timely, efficient manner and slows their progress in expanding and growing the economy.
