Members-only Budget Briefing to give job creators insight into 2012-13 state budget

Top state officials to present details of administration's spending plan

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, the day after Gov. Tom Corbett presents his 2012-13 budget proposal to lawmakers, Budget Secretary Charles Zogby and Revenue Secretary Dan Meuser will outline what it could mean for the business community the PA Chamber’s members-only Annual Budget Briefing at Crowne Plaza Harrisburg.

The PA Chamber encourages members to sign up for the event, which offers a unique opportunity to hear from and ask top state officials questions about the proposed budget’s impact on business. The program, which includes a continental breakfast beginning at 8 a.m., is being sponsored by McNees Wallace and Nurick.

Attendees will likely hear how the Corbett administration plans to address another potentially significant revenue shortfall.

At a mid-year media briefing at the state Capitol in December, Zogby pointed to a projected $500 million to $1 billion revenue shortfall as the biggest hurdle to crafting a balanced budget without placing additional burdens on taxpayers. He noted that with the more obvious spending cuts already made, Corbett’s second budget will be considerably more difficult to craft. However, he assured that fiscal responsibility will remain a priority; adding that every option is on the table with the goal of delivering a balanced budget based in economic reality.

As budget discussions get underway, the PA Chamber will continue its work with lawmakers to ensure that the state’s spending plan for 2012-13 reflects the fiscal limitations facing the Commonwealth, while advancing a legislative agenda that fosters economic growth.
