Secretaries Zogby, Meuser answer business community's questions at members-only Budget Briefing

PA Chamber members had the exclusive opportunity to hear directly from top state budget officials at the PA Chamber’s Annual Budget Briefing, held on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Crowne Plaza Harrisburg and sponsored by McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC.

Pennsylvania Budget Secretary Charles Zogby and Revenue Secretary Dan Meuser discussed key elements of Gov. Tom Corbett’s proposed 2012-13 state spending plan, which he unveiled on Tuesday, Feb. 7 before a joint session of the state House and Senate.

After reviewing the fiscal challenges facing state government in the current fiscal year, the secretaries presented a slideshow detailing the $27.13 billion budget proposal, which holds the line on spending and does not increase taxes on businesses and individuals, despite a revenue shortfall that could reach $719 million. The total proposed spending number is $20 million less than what was agreed to in last year’s budget.

Both secretaries expressed confidence that the proposed spending plan is good for Pennsylvania, and stressed the administration’s support for free enterprise and private-sector job creation.

Following their presentations, Zogby and Meuser answered questions submitted by the business leaders in attendance.

The PA Chamber supports the Corbett administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and right-sizing state government, as well as the governor’s focus on fostering private sector business and job growth.
