HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry and its statewide members expressed sadness over the loss of First Vice Chairman James I. Scheiner, PE.

Scheiner, vice president of Century Engineering, Inc., passed away Tuesday evening after a lengthy illness.

"Jim was a valued and respected member of the Pennsylvania Chamber family who served the Commonwealth and the entire business community with distinction over the years," said PA Chamber President Floyd Warner. "His dedication and service will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues in the business and state government communities."

A graduate of West Point and former captain of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Scheiner served as president and chief operating officer of Benatec Associates Inc. prior to its acquisition by Century Engineering. He was also former president of Stoner Associates, Inc., vice president of Huth Engineers, and had been a member of the board of Harsco Corp. since 1995.

Scheiner was first elected to the PA Chamber's Board of Directors in 1993, and was a member of the Executive Committee since 2009 when he was elected vice chairman. In 2010, Scheiner was elected first vice chairman. He also served as chairman of the PA Chamber's Policy Committee and Government Affairs Roundtable.

In addition to his military and private-sector career, Scheiner served as Deputy Secretary of Administration for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and as state Revenue Secretary.

"On behalf of the Pennsylvania Chamber‘s Board of Directors and our entire membership, we express our sincerest condolences to Jim's family," Warner said.
