Event Description

Annual Safety Recertification Training for Safety Committees; Material Safety Handling (Forklifts); Preventing Falls in General Industry—covering some of the most requested and important topics for workplace safety professionals, the Pennsylvania Chamber is presenting OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialists, Safety Training Specialists from the PA Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, and top workplace safety field authorities and educators to provide this key training, walk you through the latest updates, and offer practical, sound advice for your company’s safety program:

  • Back by popular demand—the Pennsylvania Bureau of Workers’ Compensation will conduct this mandatory recertification training for those companies that have their safety committees registered with the Bureau, and want to receive the 5 percent discount off their annual workers’ compensation insurance premiums. The training specialist from the Health and Safety Division will cover the four areas required in the annual training, and safety committees registered with the Bureau that attend will receive a certificate of completion from the Bureau.  As well, this training serves as an excellent refresher of safety committee best practices for those companies whose safety committees are not registered with the Bureau.
  • In Pennsylvania, forklifts have been involved in multiple injuries and deaths this year. OSHA has asked us to cover material handling safety because of the severity of the problem.
  • The well-received OSHA Update is back as well—and will include an emphasis on the forklift Under-Ride Hazard. An even greater risk than overturning, under-ride accidents occur when a standing forklift operator backs too far and slides under horizontal shelving or an obstruction crushing the driver.
  • Additionally, two-thirds of all accidents related to falls are now linked to general industry (construction accounting for one third).  With a special certification on walking surfaces, our presenter is one of the nation’s foremost authorities on OSHA’s updated and revised rule on slip, trip, and fall hazards (Walking-Working Surfaces and Personal Protective Equipment-Fall Protection Systems).
