2020 Annual OSHA and Workplace Safety Conference—presents the Director of the Harrisburg Area OSHA office together with nationally known safety consultants and compliance specialists on standards that are among the most requested educational topics from Safety Directors and that are receiving special attention from OSHA through their National Emphasis Programs.

Covering important updates and changes to OSHA regulations, and presenting real life examples and best practices, they’ll explain recommended programs to help keep your employees safe and your company in compliance:

  • OSHA Area Director Update—the Area Director of Harrisburg OSHA (where the PA Chamber’s OSHA Alliance is based), will review the types of injuries employers have been reporting to OSHA. He will also include best practices to prevent dust explosions, which is one of OSHA’s National Emphasis Programs, and will provide tips on underride hazard for forklifts (Powered Industrial Trucks).
  • Trenching Safety—with an increased number of trenching injuries and accidents nationwide and in our area, trenching safety is the top issue of OSHA’s National Emphasis Program and is also the number one priority of OSHA in Pennsylvania. We will discuss pre-planning before workers enter a trench, how to prevent cave-ins, required protective systems, how to allow access and egress for workers, excavation hazards and more.
  • Permit-Required Confined Space Standard—not only a top requested educational subject, the confined space standard is undergoing updates to the regulations. We are covering the latest changes to the compliance requirements and best practices, including how to identify a permit-required confined space, options for managing and entering a confined space, training requirements, rescue and emergency services requirements, and more.
  • Lockout/Tagout, Electrical and Machine Guarding—with hazardous machinery having the potential to cause severe workplace injuries including amputations and crushing injuries, as well as the potential for electrical shock and arc flash and blast, machine guarding and Lock-Out/Tag-Out also is part of OSHA’s National Emphasis Program. Our discussion will include the most common causes of machine guarding/LOTO accidents with best practice solutions to prevent accidents; procedures to safely secure a machine between operators; controlling hazardous energy (lockout/tagout) and best practices for prevention of electrical accidents.
