Description

Unemployment compensation remains a complicated area of employment law, as well as a high cost for businesses. Employers’ relief from charges, separation eligibility and willful misconduct issues can be confusing. This webinar is designed to help HR professionals who deal with complying with Pennsylvania’s Unemployment Compensation system on a regular basis—we will answer basic questions and provide strategies and best practices, helping eliminate confusion and potentially reducing your UC costs.

WEBINAR HIGHLIGHTS
To help businesses understand how to handle some of the most challenging aspects of the Unemployment Compensation program, top UC expert Geoffrey Moomaw, President of Interstate Tax Service, will discuss:

  • Understanding UC Benefits, Relief from Charges, Separation Eligibility and Voluntary Quit Issues—when UC benefits apply; who is eligible to receive benefits; requirements for new hires; separation fact-finding issues; how to determine relief from charges; dealing with discharge vs. voluntary quit; what to do in different situations such as employee health issues, voluntary layoffs and employees leaving for personal reasons.
  • Willful Misconduct Issues—when to apply UC benefits, if at all, in situations such as absenteeism and tardiness, drug and alcohol abuse, insubordination and profanity, damage to equipment, violation of business rules, dishonesty and more.
  • Tips for Responding to the Initial UC Claim—best practices for responding to claims. Since employers can face penalties for not properly responding to a claim, an adequate and timely response is required.
  • Best Practices for Complying with Unemployment Compensation—in his many years of helping companies comply with unemployment compensation, the speaker has identified some of the most common mistakes companies make. He will provide best practices and solutions HR professionals and benefits specialists should follow to ensure compliance.

The speaker will open up the last few minutes of the webinar to answer questions from participants.
