Description

We will cover three major issues facing IT professionals today. The first is an overview of some of the most sophisticated, devastating and frequent IT security attacks and threats for business. It is getting harder for IT professionals to stay on top of these threats. An expert from Cisco Systems will analyze these and provide best solutions to protect the company.

We also will discuss privacy security issues. In light of the pandemic, lines have become so blurred between personal and work devices that privacy is becoming a more critical issue for employers and employees. In addition, a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision ruled that if an employee with authorization to certain documents uses this access in an unauthorized manner, the employee does not violate the Computer Fraud & Abuses Act — placing an even greater burden on companies to more stringently restrict employee access to data.

And finally budgeting for future IT needs is one of the main responsibilities of an IT professional. We will provide best practices to do this job, as well as how to fit the cloud into the budget. Please see the agenda for full details on all these topics.

About The Speakers

Devin Chwastyk

Devin Chwastyk,  is Chair of the Privacy & Data Security Group of McNees Wallace & Nurick LLC, a Harrisburg-based law firm. He began working on cybersecurity issues in 2005, when he represented banks to recover credit card replacement costs from national retailers who failed to safeguard such information; his clients prevailed in some of the first successful data breach lawsuits in U.S federal courts. Today, Devin counsels clients on policies and procedures to limit the risk of data exposure events – including developing data security policies, privacy disclosures, breach response plans and associated training programs. He regularly advises clients on compliance with federal, state, and international privacy laws, including the EU GDPR. Devin also helps businesses respond to data breaches, including rectifying and reporting those events and limiting their potential liability.

When he is not working on data security matters, Devin’s practice is focused on complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on defending class action lawsuits. Devin has earned the Certified Information Privacy Professional designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, which accredits lawyers and other professionals with knowledge of privacy best practices, information technology issues and relevant U.S. and international laws. Since 2010, Devin has been recognized annually as a Pennsylvania “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers, a Thomson Reuters rating service, based on peer recognition and professional achievement. No more than 2.5 percent of attorneys practicing in the Commonwealth are selected as Rising Stars.

David Hammarberg

David Hammarberg, is a Partner with McKonly & Asbury, LLP, a business advisory and accounting firm with three locations in Pennsylvania. David co-leads the firm’s Systems and Organization Controls practice and has been an integral part of the firm for more than 20 years, serving clients in a variety of information technology and accounting capacities. David’s expertise and service focus areas include SOC for Service Organizations and Cybersecurity, forensic accounting, internal controls and security testing, data extraction and improved efficiency through the application of technology.

David’s specialized IT experience not only serves McKonly & Asbury’s clients, but the team as well. He has earned and maintained advanced certifications and has experience with various server operating systems; VMware, Microsoft Exchange and enterprise accounting systems; as well as core networking experience at the switch and router level. David also supports McKonly & Asbury’s remote access capabilities using Citrix and VPN.

Michael Hoffner

Michael Hoffner, is Managing Partner at McKonly & Asbury, LLP where he is responsible for setting the strategic vision for the firm and works closely with the leadership team in executing it successfully. Additionally, he has expertise in Assurance Services, is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, and co-leads the firm’s Systems and Organization Controls practice. Michael serves clients in a number of industries — including manufacturing and distribution, construction and engineering, technology and more. He also performs external peer reviews for accounting firms around the country. Prior to joining the McKonly & Asbury more than 15 years ago, Michael was a Senior Manager in the Baltimore office of an international accounting firm, where he served a variety of industries including construction, financial services, and healthcare. He was also an instructor in the firm’s national training program.

John Salat

John Salat, CISSP,  is the Security Solutions Architect for Cisco Systems, where he has been with the company in various positions for over 20 years. Before joining Cisco Systems John served as a Sergeant in the U. S. Marines for 8 years and was a rifleman, telecommunications/computer networking technician, military encrypted communications research and development specialist. He holds his Computer and Information Services degree from the University of Maryland and also has certifications in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering.
