PA Chamber: Let’s Celebrate, Work Together to Grow PA’s Booming Outdoor Industry

This week, outdoor enthusiasts are flocking to the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg for the Great American Outdoor Show – a celebration of Pennsylvania’s abundant hunting, fishing and outdoor recreational activities that have been treasured by residents and visitors to the Commonwealth for generations.

Not only is Pennsylvania’s booming outdoorsmanship a long-held tradition – it’s a growing pastime. A report from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis showed that outdoor recreation contributed a whopping $13.64 billion to Pennsylvania’s economy in 2021 – including 152,000 jobs, and 1.6 percent of the Commonwealth’s GDP! That’s a 22 percent increase over 2020, showing that spending time outdoors in our beautiful four-seasons state is quickly becoming a more attractive option for vacationers – giving us all the more reason to ensure its steady development continues.

And so, in honor of the Great American Outdoor Show and Pennsylvania’s vast outdoor recreation industry, let’s celebrate getting outside, embracing some fresh air, solitude and natural wonder within our great Commonwealth and recognize the many PA Chamber members in the outdoor recreation space!
