Governor’s Race: State Sen. President Jake Corman, R-Centre, has announced that he is running for governor. Former PA House Speaker Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, is also rumored to be close to announcing a run for governor. There are at least 14 announced and likely Republican candidates for governor, although the filing period doesn’t begin until Feb. 15, 2022. Read more from the Associated Press.

Sworn In: State Rep. Thom Welby, D-Lackawanna, was sworn into office on Wednesday after being elected in a special election on Nov. 2. Welby replaced state Sen. Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, who won a special election in May when former Sen. John Blake resigned to take a job with U.S. Rep. Matt Cartwright. Read more from the Pennsylvania Capital-Star.

In the Run: State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, R-Lehigh, has filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to challenge U.S. Rep. Susan Wild. He is the third Republican to enter the Congressional race, joining Lisa Scheller, a former Lehigh County Commissioner, and Kevin Dellicker, former advisor to Gov. Tom Ridge.
