Last week, PA Chamber Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Bolden visited WITF studios in Harrisburg as a guest on the radio program, The Spark, to discuss the National Civics Bee®. This program engages middle school students in civics and encourages them to contribute to their communities, which keeps the flame of democracy burning bright for future generations.
The PA Chamber Foundation has proudly partnered with the U.S. Chamber and local chambers of commerce across Pennsylvania on hosting the Civics Bee for the past two years, where participating 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. That tradition was carried forward this year, with the first-place winner – Mariya Hoja from Erie, PA – winning $1,000 as well as the opportunity to represent Pennsylvania in the National Civics Bee® in Washington, D.C. this past November where she was a top-10 finalist.
In 2025, we’re thrilled that Lt. Gov. Austin Davis will serve alongside PA Chamber President and CEO Luke Bernstein as co-chair the National Civics Bee® Pennsylvania state Finals.
The portal for 2025 Civics Bee essay submission for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Pennsylvania students is now open! Interested students can learn more or apply to the local chamber closest to them by visiting the National Civics Bee® website, now through February 4, 2025.
There is no cost to participate. Local civics bee finalists will advance to the Pennsylvania State Finals on Friday, June 13, 2025, at the HUB-Robeson Center on the campus of Penn State University in State College, PA.
