Get Out to Vote on Primary Election Day!

The PA Chamber has a message for our member companies and the voters of Pennsylvania – exercise your civic duty and vote in the Primary Election on Tuesday, May 17!

Another election season is upon us and while we stress that every election is important, suffice it to say that there are a lot of important seats up for grabs this year. The nation’s eyes are certainly fixed on the Keystone State as voters head to the polls or send in their ballots by mail and make their picks for their respective party’s nominees for U.S. Senate (with one open seat) and Governor; as well as for Congress and the state House and Senate.

It feels like a playoff picture in the hotly contested U.S. Senate and gubernatorial match-ups. Competitive races abound, with crowded Republican and Democrat fields in the U.S. Senate race and the GOP gubernatorial primaries. Pennsylvania households have been inundated over the course of several weeks with millions of dollars in television advertisements and glossy mailers. Another fun fact – even though we’re only leading up to the Primary Election – not the General, just the Primary Election- there have already been 20 debates!  After the nominees are selected in this race, the candidates will shift their focus on winning their respective General Election races on Tuesday, November 8.

As you head to the polls this year, pay attention to a key detail – your district may have changed!  Our Pennsylvania and U.S. Constitutions require that we redraw Congressional and State Legislative district lines every ten years based on new census data and population changes.  Click here to see the new maps, read district descriptions and see whether your household might fall under new district lines.

The PA Chamber often reminds our members that the electoral decisions we make could change the course of our Commonwealth’s economic health for years to come. As Pennsylvania continues to grapple with the pandemic and our organization works to drive our economic recovery forward, it’s more important than ever to ensure that pro-growth elected officials are engaged, elected to office and working with us toward that economic recovery.   A central part of our mission in promoting a strong and vibrant business climate is encouraging our members to get out and vote on Election Day, and urging those in your workplaces and communities to do the same.

Remember – the single most powerful tool each one of us has is our VOICE and our VOTE!
