Legal Affairs Council Holds First Meeting

The PA Chamber recently took a significant step toward fostering greater collaboration within the Commonwealth’s legal community with the launch of our new Legal Affairs Council.

Dozens of representatives from PA Chamber members, including attorneys, legal experts, and advocates, attended the inaugural virtual meeting last week. The meeting outlined the Legal Affairs Council’s purpose, mission, and vision, and discussed key legislative and legal topics.

Council members heard welcoming remarks from PA Chamber Vice President and General Counsel Megan Martin, who is spearheading the Council. The participants discussed various amicus briefs the PA Chamber has been engaged with, decisions pending before the PA Supreme Court and their impact on Pennsylvania’s business community, and a recent ruling by the Federal Trade Commission attempting to prohibit noncompete agreements that was the subject of a recent webinar with PA Chamber Investor Member Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney.

Pennsylvania’s legal climate is widely regarded as hostile to employers, and the PA Chamber has many members with bright legal minds who can provide valuable insights on how to generate a more balanced, predictable, and fair legal system.

The PA Chamber’s Legal Council aims to address the legal issues affecting business, including legislative proposals and regulatory changes, and to advocate for a legal and regulatory climate that fosters business growth and protects against frivolous lawsuits.
